Featured Etsy Shop: RJFineArtPrints

One of my favorite things about Etsy is that you can visit shops from all over the world without leaving your couch.  The world is such a big beautiful place but Etsy makes it feel so small.  I’m happy to introduce you to Rosie, this week’s featured seller.

Rosie is the artist behind RJFineArtPrints.  She live’s in Copenhagen, Denmark and captures the beauty of nature in her photographs.  Just see for yourself….

And now on to the interview!

When did you first take an interest in photography? I started with expressionist painting and documentary film when I was studying, but in the last few years my fascination with capturing images of nature and journeys has found it’s outlet in photography.

How long have you been in business and where are you located? I’m new to business and it’s tough but I’m really enjoying what I do. I’m from the UK originally but moved to Copenhagen to start a new life with my partner 6 months ago. It’s a beautiful place to be and an inspiring and creative place to wander!

It looks like you travel a lot, what is your favorite place that you have visited? I don’t think I can answer this! I love the variety in the places I’ve been and seeing into new worlds is half the fun of travel. At the moment though I’m really looking forward to going back to the Scottish highlands next week, and I’m hoping to finally capture some good photos of the local seals..they’re friendly but slippery customers.

What camera equipment do you use? A Finepix S1000fd is my favourite right now..the most important thing to me is having something light with good options that I can use spontaneously.

Do you only sell on Etsy? At the moment, yes! But I’m exploring some interesting options. My goal is to make original and affordable prints available to everyone.

What’s your favorite thing about Etsy? The community. It can be hard to keep motivated if you’re working alone, and it’s fantastic to be able to get instant feedback and support from other Etsy artists.

What are your biggest challenges in running your business? At the moment my challenge is getting my shop seen and finding ways of promoting what I do. But I’m finding the process really exciting. I think being passionate about what you do and being willing to put in the effort is half the battle.

What are your hobbies?  I am involved in and love all sorts of creative activity..from composing music to making a sandwich! As well as a part-time job I spend time volunteering in the art team of a local cafe, promoting new artists in Copenhagen. My debut exhibition opens there next month!

Is there anything else you would like our readers to know? I also have another Etsy shop where you can buy nature-inspired homemade accessories-

Be sure to visit RJFineArtPrints and IronStitchWardrobe and let Rosie know that you found her shops through this blog.  Check back next week for another Featured Etsy Shop!

Featured Etsy Shop: Lepelstat Crafts

This week’s featured Etsy seller, Mike from Lepelstat Crafts, makes beautiful handcrafted wooden items.  I love everything in this Etsy shop.  Keep reading to learn more about Lepelstat Crafts and see some of his beautiful items.

When did you first take an interest in woodworking? I started learning about wood working when I was just 12 years old. My Middle School had a wood shop and I made a tic tac toe board as my first real project. I was also in the boy scouts and built my own pine wood derby cars.

Tell me about your shop name. Lepelstat Crafts is derived from my last name (Lepelstat) and what I make (Crafts).

How long have you been in business and where are you located?
I have been in business since early 2009. I work out of my house and am located in Mansfield, PA.

Do you only sell on Etsy? Typically my sales are online based from Etsy, but I do sell locally when people request items.

What’s your favorite thing about Etsy? I love the fact that you can go into the chat rooms and talk to fellow creative people. The fact that allot more woodworks are starting to show up is great! Many times we exchange ideas and technique and generally help each other develop their fellow woodworker’s craft.

What are your biggest challenges in running your business? Generating Sales takes a while. I do not really advertise, but I am currently each month making something new and pushing the limits of my skills.

What are your hobbies? Woodworking, Darts, pool, watching Hockey, Fishing and Hiking, many others…

Is there anything else you would like our readers to know? Woodworking is easy to get into. Don’t think that you need several thousands of dollars or very fancy machines to get started. I know lots of people that still use the hammer and saw that the got at the hardware store. These guys can make some really remarkable pieces of art. Go explore and try new things!

Be sure to visit Lepelstat Craft’s Etsy shop and let him know that you found him through this blog.  Check back next week for another great Featured Etsy Seller!

Featured Etsy Shop: LHB Jewelry

For our 2nd featured Etsy seller post, we’re introducing you to one of our favorite Etsy jewelry sellers – LHB Jewelry.   I found Lauren, of LHB Jewelry, in an Etsy forum for people new to Etsy and have messaged back and forth since.  Since we are both new to Etsy and met in a newbie forum I like to think that we are taking this Etsy journey together.  🙂

I hope you enjoy the interview!  Be sure to read the entire post.  There is a coupon code at the end!

How long have you been in business?  Technically I have been in business since January 2nd. I registered my business with the state and the government. I have been selling jewelry at shows since July of last year though.

Do you only sell on Etsy?  Nope. I actually just started with an Etsy shop in early December. I do many shows throughout the year. I do two local Farmers Markets every week, and about 4 to 5 bazaars a month in addition to that. I chose Etsy because from January to April, there really aren’t any bazaars to sell at, so I thought this would be a good way to get my name out there nationally in the mean time.

When did you first take an interest in making jewelry?  I have always been super crafty. When I was younger, my mom would help me decorate T-shirts, paint pictures, and sew, to name a few. She is definitely my biggest inspiration. We still have monthly craft store trips together. Every time I went to a craft store, I made a point to avoid the jewelry section because I knew I would be sucked in. On one of our monthly trips, I was helpless, and sucked in just as I knew I would be. I left with about a hundred dollars worth of starting supplies and sparkly beads and dove in. Since then, I have discovered new ways to work with jewelry, wire wrapping being my favorite. Each piece is always unique and has its own twists and turns in the wire, making it something nobody can replicate exactly. I love that there is no right of wrong way to make jewelry. It just comes from the heart.

What’s your favorite thing about Etsy?  I love the chat rooms. I think they are a great way to get your name out there for free. I paid to have my jewelry showcased on Etsy, and though it got me a few views, for 7 dollars, it was nothing compared to the “hearts” and traffic I would get from spending an hour in a chat room, making friends no less!

What are your biggest challenges in running your business?  Finding time to devote to all the different aspects of running a business. I need to balance time to research shows, build stock, work on the website, photograph my jewelry, and advertise. To top it off, I have a full time job working as an early childhood educator!

What are your hobbies?  My husband and I love to watch shows and movies together. There is nothing a little “The Office” or “Parks and Rec.” wont fix!

Is there anything else you would like our readers to know?  At checkout, enter the code “VDAYSAVES” to save 15% off your entire purchase until the end of February!

What is Etsy?

Since opening our shop on Etsy, the response from our friends and family has pretty much all been the same…

Us, “We just opened a shop on Etsy!” Friends and Family, “Great!  What is Etsy?

Our general response is full of a lot of “umms” and pauses but basically sounds a lot like this, “Well, it’s sort of like Ebay in that people have their own store and sell their own items only everything is handmade and has a set price.”  Truthfully, that answer doesn’t do Etsy any justice.

So just what IS Etsy?

Etsy is an online marketplace that connects makers and buyers from all over the world.  It can be difficult for artists and crafters to find consumers interested in buying their handmade goods.  For consumers, it can be difficult to find unique products.  Etsy is the platform where these two groups meet.  Because of Etsy, artists and crafters all over the world are able to continue to create and consumers are able to connect directly with the artist/crafter and purchase a product that they couldn’t find anywhere else in the world.  We think that is pretty cool.

Featured Etsy Shop of the Week: Riverstone Pottery

There are so many wonderful shops on Etsy that sometimes it seems daunting navigating the site looking for the perfect item.  To help you find your new favorite shop, we’re going to introduce you to our favorites in a new weekly blog feature, “Featured Etsy Seller of the Week.”

I am so excited to introduce you to our first featured seller, Riverstone Pottery .  I met Hope, the artist behind Riverstone Pottery,  in an Etsy chat room.  I am so glad that I did because I absolutely love her work and it is very reasonably priced.  I know that you’re going to love this shop, too 🙂

Riverstone Pottery is based out of Rock Hill, South Carolina.  Hope started her Etsy shop in September 2010 but started throwing pottery in 1995 at UNC Charlotte.  I hope you enjoy my interview with Hope.

How long have you been in business?  I have been making pottery since 1995 but just recently (Sept 2010) have been able to start doing it full time (well what I consider full time.) I drop off my kids at school, go to the studio and work until it is time to pick them up from school.

Do you only sell on Etsy? Currently I sell on Etsy and also at the Studio/Gallery where I work. I work in a studio that also has a gallery and I have my work displayed for sale there throughout the year. I have also been filling wholesale orders and commissions and am getting ready for a few pottery festival sales this year.

What is your favorite thing about Etsy? I’d say my favorite thing is the fact that I can set up a shop online from my home that is accessible to anyone in the whole wide world. The exposure is incredible and the possibilities are endless. There is so much help available to have a successful shop to anyone who is willing to put in the time to doing the research.

What are your biggest challenges in running you business?  My biggest challenge in running my own business is just finding time for everything in my life. I am a mother of 3 young children, a wife, and active in my church. All my roles I play in my life are equal and figuring out how to balance it all out and have time to fit everything in is a challenge, but I think I am starting to get the hang of it.

What are your hobbies? I love photography and have been learning how to use my new SLR camera. I have a couple friends who are photographers and are willing to help me learn a few tricks when taking pictures of my pottery for Etsy. I love taking photos of nature and of my family.

Hope is offering a coupon code for first time buyers. The code is RIV10 and is good for 10% off of any purchase.  Please check out Riverstone Pottery and be sure to let Hope know that you found her on Bluesblossom’s blog!

Remember to check back next Friday for our next featured Etsy seller!
