Featured Etsy Shop: The Stationary Sisters

This week’s featured Etsy shop, The Stationary Sisters, creates art prints for children, motivation and love.  Check out the interview and samples of their beautiful prints below.  Don’t forget to grab the coupon at the end of the post!

When did you first take an interest in graphic design and paper crafting? I first took an interest when I was in high school. I am self taught on graphic design although I did take a few college classes for design.

Tell me about your name.  The Stationery Sisters started when my sister and I were trying to figure out a way to keep me close to my passion for art and paper. She actually thought of the name, I am the designer and she is like the creative director. She approves which designs make it to my shop and of course some don’t.

How long have you been in business? I just opened shop in January 2011, kind of a new years resolution to just start my business. I have been blogging since February 2010.

Do you sell anywhere other than Etsy? Currently, I only sell on Etsy. I am trying to expand locally.

What’s your favorite thing about Etsy? My customers 🙂 But besides the obvious, it’s the help I get from other sellers in the forum. It really makes Etsy what it is today.

What are your biggest challenges in running your business? Trying to balance the creative process and marketing and family.

What are your hobbies?  I love to read!  That is really all I do in my free time besides create. I love to create new art!

Is there anything else you would like our readers to know?  I create because I love to do it. But I create art prints because I want them in people’s lives, in their homes and in their hearts. I want my prints to leave my hands and into the hands of someone who would give it a nice home and in return, that home would give it character.

The Stationary Sisters has created a special coupon code for our readers!  Use the coupon code BLUE20 for 20% off your purchase.

Check back next Friday for another Featured Etsy Shop!

Featured Etsy Shop: ScrappinAsh

This week’s featured Etsy shop, ScrappinAsh, sells super cute handmade cards, invitations, banners, and other paper products.  Her products are cute and her prices are reasonable.  I purchased a couple of cards from ScrappinAsh a few weeks ago and had a hard time giving them away!  Check out the interview below.  Make sure that you don’t miss out on the special coupon she’s offering to our blog readers!

About me: My name is Ashley and I am 25 years old (soon to be 26 on March 25th) happily married and living in Indiana. I am a stay at home mom to my fun and adorable 2 year old son, Aiden.

How long have you been in business? I first started on Etsy in October 2007 but only in the last year or so became very active in listing and creating new products.

Do you  sell anywhere other than Etsy? I only have a store on Etsy (scrappinash.etsy.com) however I do sell to people I know and at craft fairs when I am able to sell at them.

When did you start making cards? I first started making cards when I was 16 and living at home. My mom went to a Stampin Up party and came home with supplies. We have both been hooked ever since and still find time to create together.

What’s your favorite thing about Etsy? That I am able to stay at home with my son and create things during nap times, late nights and on the weekends. I also love knowing that I can earn a little extra income doing what I love!

What are your biggest challenges in running your business? My biggest challenge in selling items is finding time. I hate turning down custom orders but I also need to be a mom and wife first. I try to ship out all orders 2-3 days after payment is received and it can be hard when I have several orders on a busy weekend.

What are your hobbies outside of crafting? When I find free time I am usually scrapbooking or creating my own personal items which have gotten neglected lately! Besides crafting I love sewing and baking, especially sweets! I also love blogging on my craft and personal blog (scrappinash.blogspot.com)

Which of your cards is your best seller? I dont have a specific card as I like to make hand made originals so usually there is only 1 of that card I have sold (of course I can recreate something if needed) but Birthday and Valentines Day cards have been my biggest sellers. I love doing Valentines Day cards since I am surrounded my boys here at home and its a good excuse to use all pink and glitter!

I recently have started making party items in my store that have really taken off as well. I love doing invites, thankyous, banners, confetti, cupcake toppers, treat bags and more! I love custom orders!

I would love to offer a code just for your readers for 10% off entire order (before shipping) Please use coupon code SCRAPPINASH10 during checkout.

Featured Etsy Shop: ByJLC

This week’s featured Etsy shop is ByJLC.  Lyn (of ByJLC) is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  She started making jewelry in 2005 but really got started on Etsy just last year.  Everything from nature to fashion inspires this jewelry artist and I think you can see it in her work.   In addition to making jewelry and taking care of her young twins, Lyn likes to bake, arrange flowers, and snowboard.   Check out some of my favorite items from her shop below!

Please check out ByJLC on Etsy and at www.byjlc.com.  Have a great weekend and see you next week for another fabulous featured Etsy shop!

Featured Etsy Shop: SnappinStudio

You’re going to love this week’s featured Etsy shop, SnappinStudio.  Check out the interview below…

When did you first take an interest in working with copper?
I have always been interested in art, and metal forming. My mom is an artist by trade, and specializes in polymer clay. She owns a business called “Laurel Tree Studio” (www.laureltreestudio.etsy.com), and Momma Daph has always encourages creativity. This past year at an art show, my girlfriend and I had the idea to start doing a craft together and maybe one day it would fund date night. We looked for a couple weeks, and settled on hand stamping. We chose that with the intent of expanding our craft into a variety of metal arts. We started with a small kit, the hammer from my toolbox, and pieces of scrap copper we had found around her garage. We loved the way it looked in comparison to other stamped items we had seen in the past, and decided then to base our shop around copper.

Tell me about your shop name.
We wanted to have a meaningful name, that would be catchy. So that hopefully people would remember the name. My Momma Daph named her shop “Laurel Tree Studio”, so we took her “Studio”, and added our dogs name onto the front! Our Brittany Spaniel is named “Snappin Turtle Bailey Man Seaman”, and he was just as proud as a pup could be when he heard the news.

How long have you been in business and where are you located?
We have only been online for about three months, but have been playing with metal for around a year. SnappinStudio used to take up a whole kitchen table, but now consumes a full bedroom in my girlfriends condo in Birminham, AL.

Do you only sell on Etsy?
As of this week we do not! We have bought our own URL www.snappinstudio.com, and recently have had been asked to be sold in a small local shop. We haven’t decided if it is the right fit, but after some more discussions and praying about it… we will know.

What’s your favorite thing about Etsy?
I love the activity feed, when a green box pops up and says “blahblah purchased such&such for $$$$” it is the coolest thing to know someone wants to buy my art! My mom always explained the feeling by saying “it makes my heart sing”… It makes my heart sing, my knees bounce, and hands clap! It’s date night baby!

What are your biggest challenges in running your business?
Julie and I are very busy people! The biggest challenge is balancing this addiction with all the others. We are both full time students at Samford University, and on scholarship for track and field. This takes up most of our days, so SnappinStudio stamping goes down at night! We can normally communicate to customers throughout the day with our phones and laptops. We both love it though so we always make time.

What are your hobbies?
I can speak for both of us and say our dogs, that we share. Track and field is also a big thing for both of us. Hurdles for Julie, and pole vault for myself.

Visit SnappinStudio and let them know you found them on our blog.  Check back next week for another great featured shop!

Celebrate National Craft Month

March is national craft month and we’re celebrating by adding LOTS and LOTS of new product to our Etsy shop!  How are you celebrating?

Here are some suggestions:

  • Learn a new craft!   Need some inspiration?  Take a class at your local Jo-Ann’s or Michael’s, watch a craft tutorial on YouTube or on a craft blog.
  • Make and donate something to one of these worthy charities.
  • Support crafters who sell their items on Etsy.  Buy Handmade!
  • Take the Buy Handmade Pledge!
  • Gather your friends for a crafting party!   Pick a craft that can be completed in a couple of hours and doesn’t require much equipment. Scrapbooking and card making are great for craft parties.  I hosted a crafting party a couple of weeks ago and we made yarn wreaths.  Mine is at the top of the post. 🙂

Now get out, have fun, and create!
