Bluesblossom Summer Recap

Hello, Bluesblossom followers!  We had a BUSY, BUSY, summer and dropped off of the blogosphere for a bit so we thought that we’d catch you up to speed on what’s been going on in our neck of the woods….

  • Our basement and craft space flooded and we had to gut the whole thing. 😦 We are still in the process of putting it all back together but the space is somewhat functional again allowing us to get back to work. 🙂
  • We have been working away trying to stock up on inventory because….
  • Bluesblossom Coasters are available at the Irvington Iris Tea Room in Irvington on the East side of Indianapolis.
  • Bluesblossom Switchplates are available at Black Sheep Gifts, also in Irvington on the East side of Indianapolis.
  • We have applied for a couple of fall/winter craft fairs and are waiting to hear if we got in.  We’ll let you know as soon as we know!
  • We have a few new products that we will be rolling out this fall. Stay tuned for more info!
  • We reached 100 fans on our Facebook page and gave away a fun switchplate to one lucky fan! (We will be doing another giveaway when we reach 200 fans so, if you haven’t already, head on over and “like” us!)
  • We received some super exciting super secret news this week and CAN NOT WAIT to share it with you…but we have to…so stay tuned for an update!

Thanks for keeping us busy and taking an interest in our shop!

Celebrate National Craft Month

March is national craft month and we’re celebrating by adding LOTS and LOTS of new product to our Etsy shop!  How are you celebrating?

Here are some suggestions:

  • Learn a new craft!   Need some inspiration?  Take a class at your local Jo-Ann’s or Michael’s, watch a craft tutorial on YouTube or on a craft blog.
  • Make and donate something to one of these worthy charities.
  • Support crafters who sell their items on Etsy.  Buy Handmade!
  • Take the Buy Handmade Pledge!
  • Gather your friends for a crafting party!   Pick a craft that can be completed in a couple of hours and doesn’t require much equipment. Scrapbooking and card making are great for craft parties.  I hosted a crafting party a couple of weeks ago and we made yarn wreaths.  Mine is at the top of the post. 🙂

Now get out, have fun, and create!

What is Etsy?

Since opening our shop on Etsy, the response from our friends and family has pretty much all been the same…

Us, “We just opened a shop on Etsy!” Friends and Family, “Great!  What is Etsy?

Our general response is full of a lot of “umms” and pauses but basically sounds a lot like this, “Well, it’s sort of like Ebay in that people have their own store and sell their own items only everything is handmade and has a set price.”  Truthfully, that answer doesn’t do Etsy any justice.

So just what IS Etsy?

Etsy is an online marketplace that connects makers and buyers from all over the world.  It can be difficult for artists and crafters to find consumers interested in buying their handmade goods.  For consumers, it can be difficult to find unique products.  Etsy is the platform where these two groups meet.  Because of Etsy, artists and crafters all over the world are able to continue to create and consumers are able to connect directly with the artist/crafter and purchase a product that they couldn’t find anywhere else in the world.  We think that is pretty cool.

Thank You for a Successful First Month!

January is almost over and we are counting our blessings.  We’ve made a lot of progress since we opened our Etsy shop.  We made 7 sales in our first month, released a new line of switch plate covers, gave an interview on the blog Misfit Momma, and set ambitious goals for the future.

Thanks for helping make our first  month successful!
